EconoSense, designed by Yeejung (Joanna) Yoon, is a mobile-first tool that helps people see how national economic changes affect their own finances. The application was built for groups often left out, like immigrants, young adults, and anyone new to financial topics. By breaking down ideas like interest rates, inflation, and taxes into simple, useful tips, EconoSense helps users feel more confident and clear when reading financial news.
The user interface design began with a conversational onboarding flow that builds a financial profile from key details such as rent, student loans, or savings goals. This profile shapes the delivery of curated financial news, where each headline is translated into clear explanations that show how it may influence everyday life. For example, an interest rate adjustment by a central bank is framed in terms of its effect on loan repayments, credit card balances, or monthly housing costs.
EconoSense features a user-focused, intuitive design. Clear icons, visuals, and simple text make information accessible. Friendly images and colour badges guide users, while progress bars track learning and goals. These simple yet helpful features and designs provide convenience and benefits, especially for immigrant families and non-native speakers. Language options and simple visuals ease their financial learning potential as well.
The application offers interactive lessons that break down financial topics into small, easy steps, using visuals to help explain each idea. Users can track their progress, pick up where they left off, and learn at their own speed. With AI personalisation, financial updates match each user’s situation, whether it’s their income, job, or goals. The system adapts as users grow, giving them a plan that fits their lives.
By combining behavioral science, smart design, and financial reporting, Yeejung (Joanna) Yoon has made financial learning easy to access and use. EconoSense helps people connect big economic changes to their own choices, so they can see how these shifts affect them. This clear and empowering approach secured recognition at the 2025 London Design Awards for its innovation and friendly user experiences.
