In a harbour city framed by shifting skies and mechanical rhythm, a newly constructed five-story residence commands attention without seeking spectacle. From its rooftop, the regular ascent and descent of aircraft offers a contemplative backdrop for the homeowner's daily life; a point of departure that quietly informs the design process. REAL HOUSE DESIGN responds with a solution rooted in material intelligence and spatial clarity, resisting conventional decoration in favour of depth, restraint, and architectural rigour.
Stone takes precedence throughout the public areas, selected not for ornament but for structure and presence. Its placement is guided by precise mathematical planning – weight, mass, and proportion calibrated to maintain harmony across volumes. The result is an interior that feels grounded, where no element intrudes and every surface carries purpose. Perforated aluminium panels introduce another layer, filtering daylight into fragmented patterns that animate the surfaces below. This dialogue between transparency and density offers a quiet counterpoint to the permanence of the stone.
The kitchen continues this commitment to elemental design. Cabinets are left open, framing daily routines without visual clutter. Curved iron lines trace upward, echoing the geometry of the exterior skyline while retaining an organic simplicity. The spatial flow remains uninterrupted, allowing materials to define the atmosphere rather than any imposed aesthetic language. Lighting, strategically placed, enriches each texture, highlighting edges, absorbing into matte finishes, and reinforcing the quiet rhythm of the space.
In the private quarters, the same discipline applies. The master bedroom features a stone-clad television wall, its surface intersected by winged light fixtures that hover with a restrained presence. The relationship between plaster, light, and stone is measured and balanced, creating a retreat that supports solitude rather than performance. Here, every detail contributes to a cohesive environment - one designed to relieve, rather than demand, attention.
Throughout the residence, stone is treated with care and foresight. Each slab is measured and cut with intent, integrated into furniture, wall surfaces, and architectural boundaries. Nothing is incidental. This deliberate control ensures that the material’s natural beauty is preserved and its role in the spatial language remains coherent.
Awarded Platinum in the 2025 French Design Awards , Marble Concealed in Depth is a refined study in the lasting value of craft, proportion, and thoughtful construction – a home shaped by discipline, material respect, and spatial intelligence.
