Interview With Aditi Sobti From United States
July 20, 2022The 2022 London Photography Awards has given birth to photographers with extraordinary talent and brilliance, to the highest accomplishments like the Photographers of the Year to the outstanding Category Winners of the Year. Experiencing what it’s like to pour their creativity which blends across the different ranges of images, the esteemed jury panel has taken their pick from the hundreds of entries available, ultimately selecting the best of each category from the amateur level.
GOTHAM | G.B. SMITH
Deeply inspired by the Batman fame, G.B. Smith integrated the mythical cities of Gotham and Metropolis from the comics into his images. Believing them to be a reflection from New York city, he holds the belief that they have been evolving together with NYC in terms of architectural styles, ranging from gothic spires to art deco and towering metal structures. He has also devised that these highly evocative urban landscapes contemplate a dark and dystopian mood, in contrast with the imposing structures and strong lines that represent a personal character of their own in the storyline. G.B. presents a collection of images that are modern and futuristic in his interpretation of NYC, telling the stories of Gotham architecture through his photographs.
Fragile Beauty of the Child Soul | Bernd Schirmer
In this image, Bernd was clever in illustrating a symbiosis of the past and the present, giving it the concept of what was, what is, and what will be. From the art piece, it can be interpreted that the little girl possesses a dream to become a famous model when she grows up, but then having to give up on her childhood experiences of play and joy. The little girl has eyes that are full of sadness yet empty at the same time, as she continues to stay in the sands of time being asleep. Even as a model with beauty, she was a fragile person, growing up in a sad childhood. However, the photographer illuminates a soft light in the middle of the photo, signifying that the soul is being repaired.
Elina-2 | Bodo Gebhardt
Elina-2 is a separate part of a series in which Bodo provides emphasis on natural materials as accessories for the models in the image. For this particular entry, a “wild headpiece” was implemented while being combined together with the bark of a special African tree. Some parts of the bark were styled to look like a “corset” and was wrapped around the model’s body. To create an even deeper feeling, bodypainting colours were also applied to the model to comply with Bodo’s motto of being everything but normal.
Proud Woman of the Omo Valley | Yoni Blau
Yoni created this project with the Suri tribe from the Omo Valley in Southern Ethiopia. The images were not created using any external accessories like artificial lighting, as it was taken in a dark tent with light coming in from the tent entrance. Yoni wanted to recreate the feeling that time does not have any meaning there, like it is unable to reach this corner of the world. For the tribe, what’s important is the essentials of life, freedom, and bare necessities. It means the satisfaction of being with their loved ones. He wanted to capture that moment, to show if they were stuck in time, left behind by the world or it was the modern society that took off on a wrong path.
The Bridge | Luigi Greco
Utilising the iconic London Bridge to create a stunning image, Luigi was fascinated by the rich history, as well as the culture behind it. In fact, he took the image from a few years back, and it was not only until 2022 that he finally went on and processed the image according to his own thoughts and imaginations. The art piece was magnificent, which turned out to be one of the finest work portrayed on the landmark.
Away from the storm | Nitin Michael
After much patience and a little bit of luck, Nitin was able to capture the dramatic scene on camera, with a giraffe from the plains of the Masai Mara in Kenya being the center piece. The image shows it walking away while looking in that direction, in opposition to the dark clouds and heavy rains that swiftly approached it from the right, just at the actual moment.
