Scotland’s best and rarest top-shelf malt blend whiskey gets a Chinese makeover for this legendarily-revered liquor!
In the world of whiskey, if there is truly one that stands at the top of the mountain and rules over all. Your question will be answered in the highlands of Scotland.
Johnnie Walker Blue Label is considered to be the absolute best malt blend whiskeys, and no other malt blend whiskeys can even come close to the taste and quality of the aged 28-year-old colossus in the whiskey world. Thus, With only 1 out of 10,000 caskets being able to fulfill the strict standards to receive the coveted ‘Blue Label’ title, it makes sense that such bottle of quality would also have a box design to celebrate its legendarily-revered status.
Commissioned by Diageo Foreign Wine Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd, Wooden Cat Illustration Design (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd has created a one-of-a-kind box design that introduces the very best of Scottish malt blend whiskeys to the Chinese connoisseurs.
The revolving theme of the box design for this renowned whiskey that Wooden Cat Illustration Design has chosen is based around the Chinese idiom, “blue is extracted from the indigo plant, but is bluer than it”, which then later turned into the new idiom, “Emotions come from blue”.
The entirety of the box uses the trademark ‘Blue Label’ blue and edges accented in gold. The lid of the box is designed to mimic the traditional Chinese wooden screen doors with attractive graphics hidden behind it, and opening it reveals the complete picture as well as the highly-coveted bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label whiskey.
Every line and angle serve a deeper purpose instead of looking good for the Chinese market. The themes that the packaging takes after reflects the future generations surpassing their predecessors.
In mandarin, the word ‘blue’ is pronounced exactly the same way as ‘orchid’, so the designers also took to incorporating their cultural elements such as butterflies, orchids, and towering castles shrouded in mist and clouds they reside next to and below the night sky lit up by the moon.
It’s fair to say that China has given the Scots a very warm welcome. And just like the whiskey, this design that serves as a tribute to the best whiskey ever made will stand the test of time immemorial!
