1Congratulations on winning in the European Photography Awards! Can you share a little about yourself, what inspired you to pursue photography, and how has your journey evolved since your first shot?
Ever since I held my first camera, I was captivated by the act of taking photographs — little did I know back then that it would grow into such a passionate pursuit later in life. It has been about three years since I purchased my first DSLR, initially with the sole intention of photographing my arts and crafts products. However, almost immediately, I fell in love with photography itself and began teaching myself, eagerly absorbing all the knowledge I could.
As a recreational rider in my spare time, I started by photographing horses, which remains my favourite field of photography to this day. I quickly realised I had an eye for capturing compelling images, and I began taking on occasional photoshoots while expanding my curiosity into other areas. Being an artist, I naturally began experimenting with different styles and creative approaches, especially during the editing process, exploring new ways to express my vision through photography.
2Can you share the story or inspiration behind your award-winning piece? How does winning this award make you feel about your journey in photography?
I am truly delighted and deeply honoured. I have been waiting for quite some time to see one of my photographs recognised, and receiving this acknowledgement reassures me that I am moving in the right direction as a photographer. The inspiration for this work came in the same way most of my creative ideas do — in the process of editing.
While working through my photographs, I came across this particular image and instantly envisioned how I could transform it into something more artistic and abstract by merging it with other photographs. That is the moment when the artist in me truly comes alive.
3How do you decide which photo to submit for a competition?
When I look at my photographs, I instinctively know which one is the right choice to submit. I simply trust my gut feeling.
4What first made you pick up a camera?
As mentioned before, I initially wanted to use it to photograph the jewellery that I am making, but soon I discovered that my passion lies elsewhere.
5What’s your favourite type of photography, and why do you love it?
My favourite type of photography is equine photography. As both a rider and someone who deeply admires horses, I find nothing more beautiful than capturing the bond between a horse and a person. I especially value candid shots, as they truly preserve the authenticity of the moment.
6What’s your go-to camera setup, and why does it work best for your projects? What’s your favourite feature?
I love working with my Canon EOS 90D and the Canon EF 70–300mm F/4–5.6 IS II USM sport lens, as they allow me to capture horses, wildlife, and nature scenes in great detail. Looking ahead, I hope to upgrade to a mirrorless camera with a lens offering a faster shutter speed.
I especially enjoy shooting in manual mode, as it gives me full control over every setting. What I appreciate most about Canon cameras is their overall interface — it simply feels intuitive and perfectly suited to my style.
7If someone looked at your work, what’s the one thing you’d want them to feel?
When someone looks at my photographs, I want them to discover beauty, to feel passion, and to create their own story within the image. For me, the greatest reward is when a photograph inspires viewers and gives them a sense of freedom in that very moment.
8What was the most challenging part of capturing your winning shot?
It was a low-light situation, and I wasn’t sure how the photograph would turn out or what editing possibilities I would have until I finally saw it on my computer.
9Is there a specific place or subject that inspires you the most?
Horses, of course. Beyond that, I allow myself to be inspired by the moment — by the place and the time I find myself in. I am very versatile as a photographer, and I am also passionate about macro photography and landscapes, which continually spark my creativity.
10Who or what has been your biggest influence in photography?
Local photographers from my country have been a great influence on me. They are all highly renowned for their work, and I greatly admire their artistry.
11What message would you share to inspire photographers to participate in photography awards, and what advice would you give to help them excel in the competition?
Always aim to improve upon who you were yesterday, but never let it become a source of stress — let your passion lead the way. Awards, in my view, are a valuable opportunity to reflect on your photographic journey and to gauge the level you’ve achieved in your craft.
12What’s one piece of advice for someone just starting in photography?
Stay curious and embrace every opportunity to experiment with your camera — let it become an extension of your vision. Then step out into the world, and let the joy of discovery guide your lens - have fun.
13What role do editing and post-processing play in your creative workflow?
A very significant role — I love taking ordinary photographs and elevating them into something unique, infusing each image with my own artistic vision through the editing process.
14How do you see technology, like AI, influencing the future of photography and your own approach?
If we learn to work with it, without letting it consume us, I believe it can be a tremendous aid in creating truly unique works of art.
15If you could photograph anything or anyone in the world, what would it be?
The Universe!
