Vriddhi Toolsidass is a designer and storyteller exploring the intersections of heritage, sustainability, and community. Her project, The Slow Thread Installation, is a socially-driven exhibition that uplifts the endangered textile traditions of South India, creating meaningful experiences that connect people to craft, culture, and memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q1. Congratulations on winning the MUSE Design Awards! Can you introduce yourself and share about what inspired you to pursue design as a career?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you so much! My name is Vriddhi Toolsidass, and I\u2019m currently a student of Art, Design, and Communication at the University of Southern California. I\u2019ve always been passionate about the intersection of craft, culture, and storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through my education and independent projects, I have explored how design can be used not only to create visuals, but also to shape meaningful experiences that connect people to heritage, sustainability, and memory. Winning has been an incredible encouragement as I begin to chart my path in the creative industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q2. What does being recognized in the MUSE Design Awards mean to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MUSE celebrates creativity that pushes boundaries, and I felt The Slow Thread embodied that spirit. It challenges conventional ideas of speed, success, and production in design. Winning here feels deeply affirming \u2014 it shows me there\u2019s space for slower, more community-centered approaches in the future of our industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q3. Can you share the story behind your success? What inspired its creation, and what do you <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Slow Thread grew from the time I spent with artisans in rural India \u2014 understanding not just their techniques, but their relationship to time, labor, and storytelling. In a fast-moving design world, it represents a return to process, to care, and to material honesty \u2014 values that I think today\u2019s industry is slowly beginning to re-embrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q4. What role does experimentation play in your creative process? Can you share an example?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think it was the invitation to experience the work \u2014 not just to view it. The Slow Thread isn\u2019t static; it engages the senses through texture, smell, and memory. Every detail, from handmade prints to worn fabrics, was crafted to slow the viewer down and create emotional resonance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q5. What’s the most unusual source of inspiration you’ve ever drawn from for a project?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One challenge was working with raw, handmade materials that didn\u2019t always behave predictably. Rather than forcing perfection, I chose to design flexibly \u2014 allowing flaws and natural variations to become part of the project\u2019s visual and emotional language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
