May Ruzicka is an Art Director who initially pursued a deep interest in understanding people by studying psychology, but eventually discovered her true passion in art direction. In her role, she is responsible for conceptualizing the big ideas for campaigns and determining the visual direction of the executions.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q1. Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your creative background.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m an Art Director based in New York. I was born and raised in a small town in Japan, in a bicultural household. I was always interested in understanding people so I studied psychology but eventually found my passion in art direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q2. What made you become\/why did you choose to become a creative?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I knew I wanted to do something creative my whole life. Growing up without a TV, I was always daydreaming and coming up with creative ways to pass time. When I was finally exposed to ads in North America when I did a study abroad in Toronto Canada, I was inspired by how a simple ad was able to reach so many people’s hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s when I knew my true passion was to impact people\u2019s lives in a positive way through creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q3. Tell us more about your business\/company, job profile and what you do.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an art director, I\u2019m involved with concepting the big ideas for a campaign as well as figuring out the visual direction of the executions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q4. What does creativity mean to you? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creativity to me means being able to recognize a problem and solve it with conceptual thinking. It\u2019s about looking at the world from different angles and finding a unique solution to make what\u2019s around us better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout, I focus on balancing aesthetics with functionality, ensuring that the final design is both engaging and highly usable, effectively solving real-world problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q5. To you, what makes a ‘creative’ idea and\/or design?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s an idea or design that solves a problem in a way that makes you go \u201cI wish I thought of that\u201d. Creative ideas and designs use excitement and ingenuity to elicit emotion from those looking at them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
