Q1. Please provide us a brief bio of yourself and your health industry background.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am Dr. Caroline Kingori, Ph.D., MPH, an expert in community and public health, currently serving as the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and a Professor at Ohio University’s College of Health Sciences and Professions. My academic journey began with a B.S. in Psychology and an MPH in General Public Health from Morgan State University, followed by a Ph.D. in Health Behavior from Indiana University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My research interests focus on sexual and reproductive health, particularly among African immigrants and refugees, and people of African descent. My work addresses critical issues such as HIV\/AIDS stigma, reproductive health, and the comorbidity of HIV with non-communicable diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have conducted extensive community-based research in the US, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, and Botswana, exploring topics like cervical cancer, pregnancy expectations, and the uptake of hormonal contraceptives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to my research, I am committed to mentoring students and junior faculty, fostering a collaborative research environment. I have also played significant roles within the American Public Health Association (APHA), serving as Section Chair, chair-elect, and in various leadership positions in the HIV\/AIDS Section and the International Health Section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q2. What motivated you to pursue this particular health initiative, and what impact has it had on individuals or communities?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was motivated to pursue my health initiatives due to a deep commitment to addressing health disparities among marginalized populations, particularly those of African descent, immigrants, and refugees. My extensive research on HIV\/AIDS stigma and reproductive health reflects my dedication to improving health outcomes in these communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My motivation stems from a desire to combat the stigma and discrimination that often accompany these health issues, which can hinder individuals from seeking necessary care and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My impact has been significant, both in academic circles and in the communities I serve. Through community-based participatory research, I have worked on projects in the US, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, and Botswana, addressing crucial health issues such as cervical cancer, pregnancy expectations, and the uptake of hormonal contraceptives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, I developed the podcast Public Health Musings in 2020 to provide a platform where public health information can be synthesized into layman’s language to better connect with the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q3. Tell us more about your business\/company, your job profile, and the specific responsibilities you undertake?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and a Professor of Community and Public Health at Ohio University\u2019s College of Health Sciences and Professions, my role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Administrative Leadership<\/strong>: As Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, I oversee faculty development, including recruitment, retention, and promotion. I provide support and guidance to faculty members, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities necessary for professional growth and academic success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teaching and Mentoring<\/strong>: I teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in public health, including Global Health Programming, Preventing HIV and STIs, Health Behavior Theory in Public and Community Health, and Maternal and Child Health in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My role as an educator involves not only imparting knowledge but also mentoring students and junior faculty, guiding them in their academic and research pursuits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research and Publications<\/strong>: My research focuses on sexual and reproductive health, HIV\/AIDS stigma, and community-based participatory research. I have published numerous articles on these topics, contributing valuable insights to the field of public health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was inspired to create the Public Health Musings podcast to bridge the gap between public health knowledge and practical application, aiming to inspire action and positive change in communities. My extensive experience in public health research, particularly in addressing health disparities and stigma, drove me to use this platform to disseminate valuable information and engage with a broader audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My work has consistently focused on the intersection of health, culture, and community, particularly among marginalized populations. This podcast serves as an extension of my commitment to public health education and advocacy. By featuring experts and discussing diverse public health topics, I aim to empower listeners with the knowledge and tools to effectively address health issues in their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
