Xiesiyuan Shu is a creative designer based in New York, skilled in both physical spaces and digital products. Throughout college, Xiesiyuan delved into both areas, developing a diverse skill set that fluidly transitions between spatial and digital design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q1. Can you briefly walk us through your story – how did you start and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you would like.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


My design career has been vibrant and varied, having explored multiple design disciplines and methodologies. From my initial foray into spatial design to my current engagement with interaction design, I enjoy experimenting with different realms of design. Though these areas may vary greatly in background and presentation, they have provided me with rich experiences across diverse fields and ways of thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I firmly believe that designers need to broaden their perspectives, embracing and learning from various domains, and then integrate this knowledge into their creative work. Thus, I am convinced that design is a discipline rooted in experience, where accumulation of knowledge nurtures the creation of superior works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q2. Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My journey in design has indeed not been smooth sailing. Initially, I was not content with just sticking to my field of study; numerous cross-disciplinary attempts brought me various challenges. Especially, accumulating professional knowledge and building a technical reserve required a significant amount of time for learning and practicing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, I am someone who strives for perfection, never satisfied with ordinary designs. Therefore, I aim for all my works to reach a high level of excellence, a standard I set for myself. Because of these challenges, achieving good results is not easy. I have invested a lot of time and effort, but I also see it as a form of personal growth and discipline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q3. We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets your apart from others?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I work as an interactive and landscape architectural designer. My areas of expertise include spatial design, interactive design and visual design. Additionally, I have ventured into fields such as furniture design, jewelry design, and VR & AR, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My hallmark is diversity and interdisciplinary approach, which has driven me to master various skills and broaden the ways I can showcase my design projects. This adaptability and willingness to explore beyond my domain are what I take the most pride in. I am committed to actively learning different technologies, open to any new knowledge that can aid in producing quality work. Apart from that, I continue to engage in artistic endeavors like watercolor painting, which keeps my passion for creation alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q4. What does \u201ccreativity\u201d mean to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creativity, to me, represents the ultimate manifestation of facing and solving problems, a perfect outcome that emerges from accumulated experience and continuous iteration. As a designer, creativity is not merely a talent; it also requires substantial accumulation over time. When a designer possesses a broad perspective and solid technical support, they will have a unique creative power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q5<\/strong>. Congratulations! As the winner of the 2024 MUSE Design Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My team members and I are deeply honored to receive this award. For our team, it represents recognition of our work, as we have always aspired to promote traditional Chinese medicine through more modern and technologically advanced interactive methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, as a discipline rooted in tradition, our team aims to quantify, digitize, and apply scientific methods to both experience and traditional knowledge. This approach will aid in the promotion of traditional Chinese medicine. We are delighted to have our efforts acknowledged and look forward to continually iterating and launching an even more perfect product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
