Shuchen Wang, a User Experience Designer, has always been passionate about creation, a joy rooted in childhood activities of crafting and exploring aesthetics. This curiosity about the construction and functionality of things ignited an early interest in design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q1. Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your design background.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My name is Mengqiu Hu, a.k.a. Freda and I’m a product designer with diverse experiences in enterprise UX, consumer product, and IoT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the moment, I am actively involved in the creation of business tools at Pinterest. In my capacity as a product designer, my responsibilities encompass fostering user empathy, developing prototypes for concepts, refining solutions through iteration, and meticulously crafting designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to my design expertise, I have also taken on roles as both a product manager and a software engineer. This distinctive interdisciplinary background empowers me to approach design from a well-rounded perspective, coupled with a strategic mindset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q2. What made you become\/why did you choose to become a designer\/artist?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From an early age, I’ve had a strong interest in producing content that is both visually attractive and innovative. This interest grew and took shape during my time as a Computer Science undergraduate. I realized that for a technology product to be truly influential, it must do more than just introduce technical advancements; it needs to solve real user issues and improve the human experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This realisation ignited my enthusiasm for exploring the complexities of human needs, and I found great satisfaction in developing solutions that connect technology with people, providing outstanding user experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consequently, this exploration led me to a rewarding career as a product designer. In this role, I am able to merge my passion for design with my technical expertise to create products that are not only efficient but also deeply connect with users on an emotional level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q3. Tell us more about your agency\/company, job profile, and what you do.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Product Designer at Pinterest, my main responsibility is to develop business tools specifically designed to help advertisers and merchants achieve their objectives on Pinterest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My approach to design is systematic, interactive, and visual, aiming to resolve complex B2B challenges with refined solutions. I manage the entire lifecycle of the user experience, from gathering insights about users to navigating through stages of ideation, refinement, handoff, and launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working collaboratively is fundamental to my role; I engage closely with engineering, product management, and user research teams to devise impactful, user-focused, and data-informed solutions that effectively engage our varied audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q4. What does \u201cdesign\u201d mean to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, design transcends mere visual appeal. It embodies a deliberate, user-focused, and inventive methodology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fundamentally, design is driven by the necessity to tackle challenges and offer solutions. This applies to the development of physical objects, digital platforms, or entire systems, with the goal of delivering efficient answers to problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design places a strong emphasis on the end-user, focusing on grasping the nuances of user behavior and requirements to develop offerings that are practical, pleasant, and easy to use. Moreover, design is inherently creative, entailing the extensive exploration of fresh concepts and diverse options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q5. What\u2019s your favorite kind of design and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have a profound interest in designs that foster well-being and drive positive transformation through solutions centered around human needs. I am convinced of design’s capacity to mould and impact the world significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As designers, I view it as our civic duty to use this influence for the betterment of society. This means developing products or services that have a beneficial effect on people’s lives, inspiring individuals to rethink their views and engage in constructive actions. It highlights the principle that design transcends mere visual appeal, aiming instead to generate significant and enduring effects on people, communities, and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
