The “NOT A SINGLE BABY WITH CHAGAS DISEASE” campaign by Fundaci\u00f3n Mundo Sano is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at eradicating Chagas disease in newborns. Ensuring access to diagnosis and treatment, while also changing public perceptions about this silent health threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a world brimming with medical advancements, Chagas disease remains a silent specter. Affecting 6 to 7 million people globally, yet less than 1% receive treatment. 1.2 million are women of childbearing age. With approximately 9,000 babies born with the disease each year\u2014that’s one baby every hour. Consequently, the majority of these cases go undiagnosed and untreated, casting a shadow over the future of countless families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transmitted primarily through the feces of the vinchuca insect infected with the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite. Chagas disease has a more insidious route of transmission\u2014from mothers to their newborns during pregnancy or childbirth. This silent transmission underscores the urgent need for awareness and intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enter the “NOT A SINGLE BABY WITH CHAGAS DISEASE” campaign by Fundaci\u00f3n Mundo Sano. However, a beacon of hope aiming to illuminate this overshadowed disease. With a bold vision for 2030, the campaign is ensuring that all women of childbearing age and babies born to mothers with Chagas disease have access to crucial diagnosis and treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign, which transformed into an international cooperation program in April 2021. Received a significant boost during the XXVII Ibero-American Summit. Here, leaders from 22 countries endorsed the “Not a Single Baby with Chagas Disease: The Path Towards New Generations Free of Chagas Disease” initiative. Appointing the Foundation as the Technical Unit for this vital cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chagas disease is not just a medical issue; it entwines with biological, environmental, economic, educational, and socio-cultural factors. Furthermore, it carries a stigma, often leaving those affected in silence. To break this cycle, the campaign adopted a positive and emotionally resonant communication style. Therefore, aiming to shift social perceptions and empower individuals to claim their right to diagnosis and treatment. This approach was epitomized in the INHERITAGE spot, a cornerstone of their communication strategy. Which saw over one million views on social media and widespread media attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the relentless efforts and continuous outreach of the “Not a Single Baby with Chagas Disease” program have not gone unnoticed. Garnering support from major organizations like UNICEF, WHO, PAHO, the Ibero-American General Secretariat, the Evandro Chagas Institute of Brazil. And Barcelona Institute for Global Health, the campaign is a testament to the power of collective action. It’s a reminder that in the fight against diseases like Chagas, awareness, compassion, and community can light the way toward a brighter, disease-free future for the next generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
