Q1. Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your design background.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am Guan-Bai Chen, with a background in Industrial Design and a Bachelor’s degree. I spent 7 years working as an industrial designer at a consumer hardware company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently, I transitioned from physical product design to digital product design, earning my Master’s degree in Interaction Design from Carnegie Mellon University. Currently, I serve as a product designer at TikTok in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q2. What made you become\/why did you choose to become a designer\/artist?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I find joy and appreciation in well-executed designs in various aspects of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q3. Tell us more about your business\/company, job profile, and what you do.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I currently hold the position of Product Designer at TikTok, where my primary focus is on crafting innovative augmented reality (AR) products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q4. What does \u201cdesign\u201d mean to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q5. What\u2019s your favorite kind of design and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a nutshell, my preference is for vibrant designs. I have a deep appreciation for colors and their ability to evoke diverse emotions. For instance, the turquoise, violet, coral, mint, and light pink hues in my collection impart a sense of freshness and tranquility, coupled with a hint of excitement from the unknown. I find joy in observing how different colors interact. In my perspective, the combination of color, form, texture, and details contributes to an overall aesthetic, and, for me, color stands out as the most crucial element when evaluating designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q6. To you, what makes a \u201cgood\u201d design?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simple, intuitive, and feasible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q7. Describe your design style and and its main characteristics.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simple and intuitive to humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q8. Tell us about your design process. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My typical process commences with observation, followed by comprehensive market research, wire-framing, prototyping, user testing, peer review, and ultimately, the finalization stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q9. Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your design process?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my home country, we’ve seamlessly integrated technology into our lives, creating a harmonious coexistence. When I design, I instinctively turn to technology as a tool, envisioning it as a means to enhance and adapt to human experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q10. Congratulations! As the winner of the 2023 MUSE Design Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This holds a special place in our hearts, motivating us to wholeheartedly embrace technology in our design process. It’s not just about using it; it’s about exploring the human touch and envisioning the endless potential that augmented reality (AR) technology can bring to our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
