Interview With The 2022 MUSE Creative Awards\u2013 Qian Wan<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Q1. Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your creative background.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I am a product designer with 3-years of experience. I take a playful approach to interaction and motion design, and my hope is to bring joy, innovation, and social good to the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q2. What made you become\/why did you choose to become a creative?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n When I was in kindergarten, my mom was really busy and worked overtime, so I became the last to leave kindergarten. Because I was the eldest, I naturally started taking care of the other kids who usually cried a lot. I figured out a way to make them happy. So I would gather them together, did some fun games, or drawing. Many years later, when I grow up, I realized that I was born to be a creator and used that power to address all kinds of challenges. I\u2019m empathetic and enjoy studying people’s behavior. I became even more excited when I transform all the insights into design execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q3. Tell us more about your business\/company, job profile, and what you do.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019m currently working in the cloud industry, focusing on bringing good experience with AI\/ML capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q4. What does \u201ccreativity\u201d mean to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It means bringing joy to people, business impact, and social impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q5. To you, what makes a \u201ccreative\u201d idea and\/or design?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Open-minded and multicultural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q6. Tell us about your creative and\/or design process.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I started with research to understand the target users first, and I won\u2019t start design without enough learning. After that, I quickly created a low-fi mock-up to test out the concept and narrowed it down to 1 direction. Once it\u2019s confirmed, I pursue the design with a higher fidelity prototype and shared it with users to get usability testing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Q7. What’s your favorite part of the creative process and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I enjoy ideations based on the learnings from the users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q8. Describe your creative style and its main characteristics.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Sometimes goofy with lots of fun motion animation and interaction but I could also be very organized and logical with a serious tone in data visualization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q9. Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your creativity process?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q10. Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2022 MUSE Creative Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n MuscleGuru is an integrated solution for muscle training users by leveraging the interaction between smartphone and watch. This is the design work that I finished independently from research to the design execution. This journey well represented my ability as a UX designer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q11. What was the biggest challenge with this project?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n After interviewing many users, I learned a lot of insights that cover many different perspectives. It took me a while to narrow down and decide what I need to focus on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q12. How has winning an Award developed your practice\/career?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It is a great platform to increase design visibility and the designer\u2019s impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q13. What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n User-focused, inclusive, multi-cultural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q14. What makes your country specifically, unique in the creative industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n China with long-history of art and culture such as fashion, and drawing makes me proud and confident to get into the creative industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q15. Where do you see the evolution of creative industry going over the next 5-10 years?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I strongly believe that AI would bring a great opportunity to the creative industry. It increases efficiency and works as a new tool for the design community. It also shapes the role of UX. With more integration of AI-based software, much decision-making could be done through machine learning instead of us. UX designers may even change their title to \u201cBehavioral Data Designers\u201d who will provide data to AI algorithms through a set of parameters. For example, AI can be used to run A\/B tests automatically, analyze the results, update the design accordingly and restart the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q16. If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring MUSE Creative Awards submitter, what advice would you give them?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Don\u2019t hesitate to overcome the challenge you are afraid of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q17. Who has inspired you in your life and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The game really inspires me to think about the interaction from different angles, such as sound, haptic, and visual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q20. What is your key to success?
