Ayomide Adeyemo

Ayomide Adeyemo, the creative director of 54Folks, has been immersed in fashion for as long as she can remember. From styling to mastering design, her journey has been shaped by experimentation, seeing it as a path to deeper understanding and innovation in fashion.

1Congratulations on winning the MUSE Design Awards! Can you introduce yourself and share about what inspired you to pursue design as a career?

My name is Ayomide Adeyemo, the creative director of 54Folks. I have been a fashion enthusiast since I can remember and transition into styling before I learned the fashion design skill, freelanced for sometime before going for my Masters in Fashion design.

2What does being recognized in the MUSE Design Awards mean to you?

Being recognized by MUSE is such a great honor and this is an inspiration for me to do better.

3How has this achievement impacted your career, team, or agency, and what opportunities has it brought so far?

I am aware that this will provide global recognition and proper positioning for my brand.

4What role does experimentation play in your creative process? Can you share an example?

Experimentation gives room for correction because by experimenting, we understand the process better.

5What's the most unusual source of inspiration you've ever drawn from for a project?

Working on one of my test collection named “Grass” I got inspiration from the architectural structure of a traditional hut in Zulu tribe in South Africa.

6What’s one thing you wish more people understood about the design process?

Design process takes proper research.

7How do you navigate the balance between meeting client expectations and staying true to your ideas?

54Folks conducts research on the target audience, striving to understand what they like and need, and incorporates this into our design development.

8What were the challenges you faced while working on your award-winning design, and how did you overcome them?

The challenge was in design development, trying to be as original as possible, and I overcame this by staying true to the brand’s identity.

9How do you recharge your creativity when you hit a creative block?

Usually, I go back to the brand story, which reminds me why I started and reignites the flame.

10What personal values or experiences do you infuse into your designs?

Telling the historical story, no matter how modern the design is.

11What is an advice that you would you give to aspiring designers aiming for success?

To start, no matter how little.

12If you could collaborate with any designer, past or present, who would it be and why?

Inane Ayissi, their brand’s identity aligns with ours.

13What's one question you wish people would ask you about your work, and what's your answer?

54Folks is a fashion library that explores the history of tribes in the 54 countries of Africa.
