In a world where fashion often follows trends, Black Lioness commands attention with a voice entirely its own. A fashion that is more than a garment; as it stands as a vivid expression of mythology, craftsmanship, and purpose. Inspired by the powerful yet nurturing spirit of the goddess Kali, the piece channels a maternal force that protects, endures, and leads with unwavering strength. Embedded in the myth where Lord Shiva calms the fierce energy of Kali by lying at her feet, the design features a detail rarely explored: the surprised expression of Shiva’s serpent.
This small but striking moment injects movement into the piece. As the wearer walks, multiple snakes appear to slither beside her, evoking the instinctive, protective devotion of a mother guarding her young. Far from superficial, each detail anchors a deeper story stitched into the fabric itself.
The garment’s colour palette embraces deep black and regal gold, overlaid with a hand-painted leopard pattern that mirrors the raw, untamed essence of the goddess. The materials are chosen with purpose.

The construction process itself reflects the discipline and intensity of the goddess it honours.
Over 60 percent of the garment is hand-sewn, layer by layer, stitch by stitch. Each pass of the needle is a commitment to detail, made through moments of physical challenge and creative resolve.

Black Lioness is the result of a deliberate and labour-intensive process led by designer Sheetol Chawla. The work integrates symbolic detail, precise craftsmanship, and a strong visual identity informed by mythological reference, winning not one but two Platinum Awards in the 2025 French Fashion Awards.
