Experience the colossal birds of prey that dominated the skies in WWII and the iconic nose arts with AR in the NAEC Nose Art Experience!
Once a dominant force against nature that strikes fear to the hearts of Axis soldiers below whilst raining hellfire and Allied forces simultaneously from above, bomber planes of World War II are now relics of the past that are either used for military processions and parades, preserved in war history museums, or simply just rotting away in junkyards where they are salvaged for materials.
To truly give these flying machinations with so much history and contributions to The Great War the respect they deserve, the National Aviation Education Center (NAEC) has teamed up with Groove Jones to create an app to utilize the power of AR to explore the history of these great winged beasts in a way that has never been done before!
The NAEC Nose Art Gallery is a Smithsonian-certified collection of authentic World War II Aviation Nose Art that is found in the forward position or noses of the aircraft fuselages where the art of pin-up girls would usually be found on.
With an AR-compatible smart phone, visitors who have downloaded the app can not only view the artwork digitally, but also on the very same WWII plane that it was originally painted and viewed by walking around it physically. In addition to that, you also have access to the very manifesto of missions that that particular plane was also involved in complete with their very own soundtrack and effects.
In addition to that, each and every plane of the collection also have their very own story narrated in a podcast-style by none other than Major Attaway. Whom most youngsters would immediately recognize to be the very voice behind Genie in Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway.
Other intriguing pieces of information that you can also read and learn more about is also an archive of other unique and iconic nose art on planes of all makes and models that have been service during the war, to the more saddening visuals of the planes being scrapped for parts post-WWII.
