In the 2022 MUSE Photography Awards, judges have witnessed the magnificent creations of various MUSE editorial photographers. Without their storytelling skills, the world would lose touches of passion and colors.
With that in mind, here are 5 of the remarkable Platinum winners who managed to win the hearts of the judges via their editorial photographs, encompassing a great story that will live on for centuries.
Fishing Nets in the Wind | Chin Leong Teo
Telling the stories of a fisherman in Xiapu a county in Fujian, China that is well known for its fishing industry, Chin Leong took the opportunity to capture an image of him in Xiapu rowing a canoe up the streams of a river as a fishing net set up flutters around in the breeze.
Wheel chair | Arun Mohanraj
Wheelchairs, in the minds of others, are often related to the disability and limits of a person. Arun wanted to change that mindset, which led to the photographs of para-athletes who surpassed their boundaries in proving their determination for various sport events. In the process, these athletes inspire everyone by competing against the challenges they face in things others take for granted.
Afghanistan – Graveyard of Empires | Christiaan van Heijst
Christiaan holds a special place in his heart for Afghanistan, filled with dangerous adventures but also the beauty that radiates across the entire country. Presenting the legendary snow-capped Hindu Kush mountains surrounding the ancient city with a sky that is dyed in cobalt-blue. Although in turmoil, the unseen side of the country has an incredibly rich and interesting history, breathtaking sceneries and so many good people out there. In this series, he wanted to show the side that has not been drenched in chaos, displaying the most beautiful side of it there is.
Yayoi Kusama X Botanic Garden of New York | Frank Zhang
Yayoi Kusama is a legend in contemporary art, acknowledged as one of the most important living artists currently in the world. In the exhibition of Yayoi Kusama X Botanic Garden of New York (NYBG), it reveals her lifelong fascination with the natural world. It all starts with her childhood renderings, continuing to her artistic concepts of obliteration, infinity, and eternity are inspired by her intimate engagement with the colors, patterns, and life cycles of plants and flowers. Through the exhibition, Frank aims to extend Kusama’s concepts on their nature from art installations to fashion.
The Fall of Kandahar, Afghanistan | Adam Rountree
Adam wrote his chronicles through the depiction of the fall of Kandahar, Afghanistan. During this time of war, the district fell under the attack of Taliban fighters in August of 2021. The series of images show the true situation of battle and mayhem, showing the world that this is an event that will never be forgotten in the sands of time.
